Long Island Native Appointed Special Master To Review Trump Docs

Raymond Dearie was a longtime judge for the Eastern District in New York.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Former president Donald Trump's legal team has their special master selected, who has ties to Long Island.

Raymond Dearie, who is charged with reviewing the documents seized at Mar-a-Lago, grew up in Rockville Centre.

He will determine if Trump removed any items from the White House that could fall under executive privilege.

Dearie, 78, was appointed as U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of New York by President Ronald Reagan. A position he held from 1982-1986. Reagan nominated Dearie to the federal bench in 1986, serving as chief judge in the Eastern District of New York from 2007 to 2011.

Dearie got his law degree from St. John's University in 1969.
