A hidden room was found in the back of a Uniondale deli, and what was inside landed a Freeport man in custody, police say.
UNIONDALE, NY. — A Freeport man was arrested Sunday after police found a hidden room at the back of a Uniondale deli filled with six electronic gambling machines and $6,096 in cash, police said.
Nassau County police said 51-year-old Jose Amaya Barquero was issued appearance tickets under state Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) law and Town of Hempstead ordinance after the secret room was found during an inspection at G&G Deli and Grocery on Jerusalem Avenue. The room, police said, was only accessible by a remote magnetic latch.
The 51-year-old is due in court on Apr. 6, police said.
