Gillen Announces 4th District Art Competition Winners

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — South Side High School student Gabriella Guizzo was crowned the winner of the Congressional Art Competition for New York’s 4th Congressional District Wednesday, as Congresswoman Laura Gillen presented her with first prize for her artwork titled, “The Hand.”

Guizzo’s win is the local edition of a nationwide congressional art competition that has brought in submissions from over 650,000 participants since its 1982 inception. The award was conferred in a ceremony at Hofstra University, with Oceanside High Schooler Kennedy Keoghan winning second prize for her piece “Phoenix,” East Rockaway’s Angelica Garcia winning third place for her piece, “The Language of Hands” and Lynbrook High School’s Adriana Enderica winning fourth place for “Daydreaming.”

“I am amazed by the creativity and talent showcased by our students this year’s submissions,” Gillen said. “We have some of the greatest artistic talent right here in Nassau County. The year-round Congressional Art Competition exhibit is a highlight of our nation's Capitol and it’s a privilege to see such meaningful student work on display. I’m proud that Gabriella’s incredible talent will represent New York’s Fourth Congressional District.”

As part of the win, Guizzo will have “The Hand” displayed in the U.S. Capitol, introducing millions of annual visitors to the young artist’s work.
