“I am appalled with Gov. Cuomo’s threat today of a 26 percent tax increase on the middle class. This is in addition to his proposed taxes on internet sales, vapor products and cigars. A federal bill has been introduced that alleviates a major tax burden by requiring the state to fully pay for Medicaid costs rather than the counties. Requiring the state to pay for these excessive costs traditionally passed on to local municipalities and then our residents in the form of outrageous property tax bills will allow Long Islanders to finally see the tax relief we have been fighting for. The governor has said that there is no money to pay for this in his $152 billion state budget, which includes more than $4 billion in funds to be spent at his discretion. His solution is to raise taxes on the middle class by 26 percent while he provides millions of dollars in tax credits to Hollywood. This is unacceptable."
