Hell No!

Not the best way to respond to someone inquiriing about a new opportunity.

Over the last month I have been searching to find a needle in a haystack for a hard to fill position, I must have emailed a few hundred experienced professionals and the responses back varied from "No Thanks" to "Hell no!" or nothing at all..... hmmm...

When approached by a headhunter, recruiter, friend, (or other), there are more tasteful ways to decline an offering rather than the standard "Hell no!".

Some examples: if you are receiving an inquery from a headhunter/recruiter for a job, don't just not respond, try these tasteful replies instead:

  • If you are not interested at ALL (not the right fit, role, company, etc),  you can simply reply back: "Thank you for considering me for this position, however I am happy with my current role and not looking to make a switch".
  • If the opportunity is in your wheelhouse but something you do not want to take at the moment: "Thank you for your consideration, however I would be interested in learning more about your Managerial roles. I have a great network and can pass the job along to see if anyone is interested, would you be able to share any further information with me?"

Of course there are many more alternatives and more scenarios than just the two above. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter to learn more tips on tastefully saying no and other career conundrums.
