Hempstead Town Holding Emergency Preparedness Training

Residents will learn how to prepare for a disaster, respond to an active shooter and more.

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Laura Gillen will be joined by officials from the New York State Department of Homeland Security and emergency service personnel to train local residents on how to properly prepare for natural or man-made disasters. The special Citizen Preparedness Training program will provide citizens with the tools and resources to prepare for emergencies, allowing them to respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible from disasters.

The training seminar will be held on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. at Hempstead Town Hall, located at 1 Washington St. in Hempstead.

Topics will include developing a family emergency plan, stockpiling emergency supplies, responding to an active shooter threat and registering for the NY-Alert. Participants of the training will receive a certificate of completion and an emergency response backpack and starter kit, courtesy of the Citizen Preparedness Corps.
