Jamaican Restaurant In Baldwin Broken Into: Police

An ATM machine and tip jar were destroyed, police say.

BALDWIN, NY — A Jamaican restaurant in Baldwin was broken into on Thursday, Nassau police said.

Two men entered the eatery, at 1747 Grand Ave., Baldwin, around 3:20 a.m., and caused damage to the store, police said.

Officers saw the front door was pried open with a crowbar, causing more than $300 worth of damage, police said. The men dragged an ATM machine to the front of the store and destroyed it, stealing the money inside it, police said. Police did not say how much was taken. A tip jar kept on the store counter was also smashed and its proceeds swiped, police said.

The men ran out the back door into the parking lot in an unknown direction, police said.

Police described the first man as having a medium build, dark blue hooded sweatshirt, a face mask, black pants and black shoes.

The second man was described as having a medium build, red mask, black hooded sweat shirt, black shoes, black pants, black gloves, police said.

Officers said they do not know the race of either man.

Detectives asked that anyone with information on the burglary call the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1–800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
