LI Senators Planning Hearings On LIRR Problems
The senators plan to hear from the LIRR, as well as riders, to find out how the service can be improved.

As lawmakers in Albany settles in for their new session, the new heads of committees are planning to hold hearings to hold the Long Island Rail Road accountable for the sub-par performance that many riders have come to expect.
The Senate's committees on corporations, authorities and commissions, and transportation are teaming with Long Island senators to hold hearings on the state of the LIRR in the coming weeks. The senators sent an open letter to LIRR President Phillip Eng to notify him of their plans.
"Statistics reveal what commuters know quite well -- that the LIRR’s recent performance is subpar and in desperate need of thorough review and revamping," the letter reads. "In light of the legislature’s role in funding the MTA’s budget, as well as fulfilling our role as representatives of the riders who rely on your service, we intend to exercise our oversight authority in an effort to seek collaborative solutions to remedy an unsustainable situation."
