Long Beach Boy Scouts Learn Life-Saving Training
The boy scouts and their families were taught techniques to stop bleeding in an emergency.

LONG BEACH, NY — While a merit badge may not be the end result, members of the Boy Scouts from Long Beach took part in a special training by Mount Sinai South Nassau.
The Stop the Bleed workshop taught the youngsters and their parents one-on-one life-saving techniques.
"All our scouts agreed the program was well worth the time, and it was great to learn the skills with a hands-on demonstration," Senior Patrol Leader Liam Bolz said. "As a group [that] is always outdoors, it was good to learn how to treat severe bleeding and hopefully we will never need it, but as scouts, we always want to 'Be Prepared.'"

Using a medical mannequin, they learned how to use their hands to apply pressure to the wound.
"In real-time, individuals at the scene of a serious accident may very well be the first to respond to a bleeding victim,” said Abby Fromm, Director of Community Education at Mount Sinai South Nassau. “By learning how to Stop the Bleed, the boy scouts now have the ability to recognize life-threatening bleeding and to act quickly and effectively to control bleeding."
