Long Island High School Student Made Terrorist Threat On Snapchat: Police

When police tracked him down, he fled and threw a handgun in a dumpster, police say.

BALDWIN, NY – A 20-year-old student at a Long Island high school was arrested Thursday morning after he posted threatening messages on Snapchat, police said.

Shamari Gerrow, a student at Baldwin High School, is charged with making a terroristic threat and unlawful possession of a weapon upon school grounds.

According to Nassau Police, Baldwin High School officials received information indicating that Gerrow had posted a video on Snapchat, a social media app, showing three handguns and a message referencing which gun he would bring to school.

When police found Gerrow, he fled, and as officers chased him, they saw him throw a black handgun into a shopping center dumpster just before he was apprehended at Emerson Avenue and Browning Street, police said.

The handgun, which was recovered, was determined to be a black air-powered pistol.

Gerrow will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Friday.
