Long Island Jewish Learning Network Launches in Rockville Centre

Central Synagogue and Congregation Beth Emeth on DeMott Avenue in Rockville Centre, are excited to announce the new LI-JLearn: Long Island Jewish Learning Network. Classes begin Wednesday evening November 18th and will continue on November 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd. Pre-registration is due November 9th by 5:00 pm. The two courses for this trimester are:

Kolot: The Many Voices of Prayer

Rabbi Elliot L. Skiddell of Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Emeth

Basic prayerbook Hebrew with a focus on the structure of the Hebrew language and the meaning of the prayers and their place in the liturgy. The class will explore the variations of prayers across differing Jewish traditions. There will be no fee for this course.

From Women in the Balcony to Women of the Wall

Women have helped reshape our Jewish communities and our practice of Judaism. In this course, we will explore the history, accomplishments, and challenges of Jewish feminism. This course includes a $25 textbook fee for New Jewish Feminism: Probing the Past, Forging the Future.

Following this first installment of classes there will be both a winter and spring trimester. Each trimester will build upon the previous classes, but will be designed so that students may join the classes for any of the three sessions.
