Officer Hurt After Stolen SUV Crashes Into Cop Car, Passenger Arrested: Police

Police are still seeking the SUV's driver, who ran away after the accident, police say.

Rockville Centre, NY — A passenger in a stolen SUV that crashed into a police car while trying to escape officers in Rockville Centre was arrested after he was found to have stolen items in his possession on Wednesday morning, according to Nassau Police.

Rockville Centre Police responded to a home on Broadway at about 4 a.m. for a larceny when they saw a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox with its lights off, police said.

As the officers approached to investigate, the car sped off onto Judson Place and crashed into a Rockville Centre Police car.

An officer was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries sustained in the accident, police said. No other injuries were reported.

The passenger of the car, 18-year-old Jahni Robinson, of Oceanside, was arrested at the scene, police said. The driver, who ran away after the accident, has not yet been caught.

Police discovered that the SUV was stolen from Uniondale several hours earlier and Robinson had been involved in two car larcenies in Rockville Centre and Westbury that same day, police said.

Robinson was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree grand larceny and attempted petty larceny, police said.
