Man Drags State Trooper Across Southern State While Fleeing Traffic Stop: Police
The trooper sustained head injuries Wednesday afternoon. A 29-year-old man is behind bars.

A Queens man was arrested after police say he dragged a state trooper across the Southern State Parkway during a routine traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.
According to State Police, at about 3 p.m., a trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2012 Honda Accord on the eastbound Southern State, west of Exit 19 in Rockville Centre. During the traffic stop, police say the driver, 29-year-old Kyheem J. Kelly, of Jamaica, drove off, dragging the trooper across all three lanes of traffic before striking the concrete center median.
The trooper sustained head injuries and is currently being treated at a local hospital.

The trooper, with the assistance of good Samaritans, apprehended Kelly at the scene, police say. Kelly is charged with aggravated assault upon a police officer, second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.
