Man Fatally Struck by Car in Nassau County

ISLAND PARK, NY – A 70-year-old man was struck and killed by a car in Island Park Monday morning, Nassau Police said.

According to police, Jan Kalas, of Northport, was attempting to cross Austin Boulevard at the intersection of Marina Path when he was struck by a 2014 Honda Civic that was heading southbound on Austin Boulevard at about 8:30 a.m.

Kalas was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who police did not identify, remained at the scene and will not face any criminal charges, police said.

The investigation is continuing.
