Man Kicked, Dragged Outside Elmont Deli, Phone Taken, Police Say

A Valley Stream man was arrested following the incident, police say.

ELMONT, NY — A Valley Stream man was arrested after a robbery that occurred on Tuesday night in Elmont, police said.

Nassau County police said that at 8:01 p.m., a 59-year-old man was in front of the Elmont Deli and Convenience on Linden Boulevard when an unknown man began to argue with him.

The unknown man kicked the 59-year-old man, dragged him on the concrete, and removed his cell phone from the ground before fleeing eastbound on Linden Boulevard, police said. A NCPD Medic evaluated and treated the 59-year-old man, who did not want to be transported to a local hospital, police said.

Upon investigation, officers arrested 45-year-old Jason Gayle, and he was charged with third-degree robbery, police said. He will be arraigned on June 9 at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
