Man Posed as Taxi Driver, Robbed Nassau Mother in Her Front Doorway at Gunpoint

BREAKING: The woman had just put her children to sleep when the man robbed her.

Police are searching for a man who posed as a taxi driver and then robbed a mother at gunpoint in her front door.

First Squad detectives are investigating a Robbery that occurred on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 4:30 am in Baldwin.
According to detectives, a 29-year-old woman, who had just finished working as a waitress, had called for a taxi cab for a ride home early Saturday morning. She approached a white four-door car that she believed was the cab, asked the operator if he was, in fact, her taxi ride, to which the driver responded, “Yes.” After entering the car, she directed him to an address in Hempstead to pick up her children. The ride then continued and concluded at the family's Baldwin home.

The woman exited the car and told the driver that she would put her sleeping children to bed and come back down to pay him. She was shortly after met at her open apartment door by the driver, who displayed a black handgun. He saw cash that was sticking out from within her shirt and grabbed it, then ran back into his car and fled northbound on Milburn Avenue.

The woman described the driver as a black man, approximately 6 feet, 3 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black hat, black jacket and gray pants.

Detectives request anyone with information regarding this incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
