Man Starts Fire After Fight With Roommate: Police

BALDWIN, NY — A Baldwin man was arrested for setting a fire after an altercation with his roommate, police said.

Officers responded to a disturbance at a home on Grand Avenue at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Colin Eith, 33, set paper on fire in the kitchen before leaving the residence, detectives said.

Eith's 40-year-old roommate called 911. The blaze was extinguished before firefighters arrived. Eith had returned to the residence and locked himself in a bedroom, police said.

Arson Bomb Squad detectives arrested Eith without incident. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, police said.

During the investigation, police learned the roommate has an active protective order against Eith.

He faces charges of second-degree attempted arson and second-degree criminal contempt. Additionally, Eith has two open warrants for second-degree burglary and three-degree assault, according to police.

He was due to be arraigned on Thursday.
