Man Stole $6,000 Purse Woman Was Having Delivered: RVC Police

The Rockville Centre Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Aug. 19.
Aided
- On Aug. 19 at 7:19 a.m., a resident of S. Park Ave was found dead in her home from an apparent ongoing illness.

- On Aug. 15 at 10:58 a.m., a Massapequa resident reported two credit cards were stolen from her wallet, which was left unattended at TGI Fridays, located at 716 Sunrise Highway, and that unauthorized charges were then made on them.
- On Aug. 15 at 7:02 p.m., an employee at Ace Hardware, located at 315 Sunrise Highway, reported that a man and a woman stole eight power tools, totaling $600 in value, from the store.
- On Aug. 16 at 10:01 a.m., an Old Mill Court resident reported she ordered a $6,110 Chanel hand bag that was stolen during delivery. FedEx advised that an unknown man signed for the package delivery.
- On Aug. 18 at 2:29 p.m., a Valley Stream resident employed in Rockville Centre reported that he saw a woman stealing items from his Honda Accord, which was parked in the vicinity of 315 Merrick Road. When he confronted her, she was joined by a man and the two of them fled the scene. The owner of the Honda called the police and followed the man on foot. The man then stopped and punched the victim in the face before fleeing again. Nassau County Police Department First Precinct detectives are investigating.
- On Aug. 17 at 1:01 p.m., a resident of Maple Avenue reported that his Trek mountain bike was stolen after he left it locked to a pole by the train station.
Leaving the Scene of an Auto Accident
- On Aug. 13 at 5:20 p.m., a driver reported his car was struck by a vehicle that left the scene while his car was parked at the corner of Merrick Road and North Village Avenue.
- On Aug. 14 at 7:47 p.m., a driver reported his car was struck by a vehicle that left the scene while he was driving in Municipal Parking Field 6. No injuries were reported.
- On Aug. 16 at 8:04 PM, a Columbia Road resident reported that while he was driving his 2012 Hyundai on N. Long Beach Road and Lakeview Avenue, he was struck by another vehicle which left the scene. No injuries were reported.
- On Aug. 18 at 11:58 a.m., an East Rockaway resident reported that while his vehicle was parked in front of 434 Sunrise Highway, it was struck by a red pick-up truck, which then left the scene.

- On Aug. 12 at 10 p.m., an Ongley Street resident reported that the front passenger window of his 2014 Kia was shattered while it was parked in Municipal Parking Field 12.
- On Aug. 15 at 9:04 p.m., a Brower Avenue resident reported he saw someone punch the driver side mirror of his 2001 Pontiac Sunfire, causing $350 damage.
- On Aug. 18 at 5:25 p.m., a village employee reported damage to a lock at Hickey Field, located on Morris Avenue.
Arrests
- On Aug. 17 at 3:51 a.m., Joshua Andy Samaroo, 25, of Cambria Heights, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and other vehicle and traffic law violations after police say he was observed driving on Sunrise Highway with his headlights off.
- On Aug. 18 at 11:19 a.m., Vevelina F Rodriguez, 23, of Bayshore, was arrested and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, driving with a suspended registration and other vehicle and traffic law violations during a vehicle stop in Municipal Parking Field 9, police said.
