Man Stopped For Traffic Violations Assaults, Flees Officers: PD

INWOOD, NY — A man, stopped by police for committing multiple infractions near Pearl Street and West End Avenue early Wednesday, shoved an officer and fled with a green bag, detectives say.

The man, identified as Randy Scott, 27, was seen throwing the bag over a fence, police say.

Scott, placed in custody after a short pursuit, was actively resisting arrest, detectives say.

He had Oxycodone pills in his possession and officers also located the discarded bag with a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun inside, police say.

One police officer suffered an injury to his knee and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Scott faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned when it's medically practical, according to police.
