Manny’s Sweet Treats Debuts Second Shop In Village
Owner says he looks to create a more family-friendly establishment than the flagship store in Mineola.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Hector Carvalho opened his second dessert shop, Manny’s Sweet Treats, in the village last week.
An East Meadow resident, Carvalho has created every aspect of his company, from the logo and signs to the multiple shakes and bathtub sundaes he serves, since he founded the first Manny’s in Mineola in 2016.
The new, smaller shop in Rockville Centre, at 280 Merrick Rd., will feature everything the original offers with a few exceptions, and he plans to debut some new creations in the coming months.

One of Carvalho’s latest creations is a burrito crepe, consisting of cheesecake and chocolate cake wrapped on a crepe with choices of white chocolate, chocolate chips and other toppings.
“I created it to make something a little more fun, and they became a big hit in Mineola,” he said.

The menu also features parfaits, include a chocolate-peanut butter variety with chocolate chips and decorated with whip cream and various toppings, as well as waffles, specialty lattes, and ice cream sandwiches.
The Rockville Centre shop will offer 12 flavors of ice cream, a half dozen fewer than the Mineola location. The new shop will also not offer the alcohol concoctions, such as slushies and milkshakes infused with liquors, served at the flagship store. That decision involves the type of atmosphere Carvalho looks to create at the new shop.
“We have enough bars here and so we think nonalcoholic is the way to go,” he said.
The Rockville Centre shop will also remain open Friday and Saturday evenings until 2:30 a.m. the next mornings.
“We thought Rockville Centre needed a place for people to hang out at night and not just a pizzeria or restaurant,” Carvalho said. “We wanted a place that’s family-friendly where we can please the moms, dads, grandpas and kids and everyone in between.”
Carvalho has another shop in the works but declines to reveal the location until the real estate deal is finalized. Meanwhile, he has another creation he plans to debut in a month or two.
“We are going to create our own sweet, waffle-based chips, so that it looks like nachos but is a sweet nachos,” he said.
