Nassau County Opens Warming Centers

With freezing temperatures, the county has opened its doors to keep residents warm.

With the coldest temperatures and lowest wind chills of the winter season thus far hitting now, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano – in partnership with the Town of Oyster Bay, Village of Rockville Centre and Salvation Army – announced that the following warming center locations are open to residents this week:

  • Cantiague Park Ice Rink – 480 W. John St., Hicksville. Hours of Operation: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Grant Park - Broadway & Sheridan Ave., Hewlett. Hours of Operation: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Mitchel Field Administration Center - 1 Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Uniondale. Hours of Operation: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center at Bethpage – 1001 Stewart Ave., Bethpage. Hours of Operation: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Syosset-Woodbury Community Park Ice Rink - 7800 Jericho Turnpike, Syosset. Hours of Operation: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Marjorie Post Community Park – Unqua Rd. & Merrick Rd., Massapequa. Hours of Operation: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Salvation Army – 65 Atlantic Ave., Hempstead. Hours of Operation: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sandel Senior Center – 51 South Park Ave., Rockville Center. Hours of Operation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Nassau County Winter Homeless Hotline - 1-866-WARMBED - is open and runs seven days a week through March 31. Between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. Monday thru Thursday, and Friday from 6 p.m. thru Monday at 8 a.m., employees from the Department of Social Services (DSS) will make appropriate referrals and provide shelter placement. Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, call the Department of Social Services at (516) 227-8519.
