Nassau Man Impersonated NYPD Detective To Officers: Police

Police say they became suspicious during their conversation with the man, then learned he had an open warrant in New Jersey.

Nassau County police arrested a Baldwin man who they say was impersonating a police officer to detectives.

According to police, Nassau County detectives were at 7-Eleven, located at 475 Merrick Road in Oceanside, at 10:50 a.m. on May 11 for an unrelated case. While there, detectives say they were approached by Frank Zenon, 55, of Coventry Drive, Baldwin. Detectives say that Zenon identfied himself as a detective with the NYPD. After a brief conversation, the detectives became suspicious of him. An investigation showed that Zenon had an open warrant in New Jersey.

Detectives arrived at his home later and placed him under arrest without incident. During a search of his home, police recovered two NYPD detective shields.

Zenon is charged with two counts of second-degree criminal impersonation and having an open warrant from out of state. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
