Nassau Police Arrest Alleged Porch Pirate

Police say the man stole packages from the front of homes, including one that contained a chandelier.

An Old Brookville man was arrested on Tuesday and charged with stealing packages from in front of homes in Oceanside in 2017.

According to police, Neil Lamorte, 55, of Cedar Swamp Road, stole a package containing a chandelier from in front of a home on Lawrence Avenue on Feb. 17, and then a package containing two Kate Spade handbags, valued at $280, from in front of a home on Lincoln Avenue on March 28.

Police say he parked his car across the street from the houses, walked to the front door and grabbed the packages, then put them in his car and drove away.

Lamorte was arrested on Jan. 1 at 1o:15 p.m. without incident. he is charged with two counts of petty larceny. He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Feb. 7.
