Nassau Police Officer Helps Deliver Baby In Hospital Elevator

The officer escorted the mother to the hospital and to the maternity ward, but they didn't quite make it.

A traffic stop turned into much more for a Nassau family Friday evening, and for their police escort.

Police say that Officer Resnick conducted a traffic stop on a car, and was told by the driver that they were heading to the hospital to have a baby. The officer escorted the car to South Nassau Communities Hospital to help ensure their safe arrival.

At the hospital, the officer helped the mother into a wheelchair and brought her to the emergency room. A hospital staff member was assigned to escort the officer and mother to the maternity ward. However, while they were in the elevator, the mother went into labor. Officer Resnick and the hospital staff member helped the mother deliver a healthy baby boy.
