Nassau Standout Students Gain Praise For Achievements

LONG ISLAND, NY — There are so many students doing amazing things in and out of the classrooms. Patch is pleased to highlight a few of them.

Ariella Lerner of Great Neck, part of the Education Society at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, helped raise more than $7,500 in donations for communities in need.

Lerner is the treasurer of the group.

Justin Jagtiani of Merrick was among 35 SUNY Oneonta students, who volunteered for a holiday initiative that will bring joy and light to the city of Oneonta and its residents this season.

They hung decorations and a local park for an annual, free holiday lights display.

The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina named a handful of Long Islanders to the Dean's list. William Duggan of Seaford, Daniel Graham of Wantagh and Kyle Samida of East Meadow were recognized for their accomplishments.

Cadets and students can make the Dean's list if they are registered for 12 or more hours and have a grade point average of at least 3.20 with no incomplete grade or lower than a C.

Maximilian Pertsoff of Bellmore, a member of the Class of 2023, was named to the Fall 2022 High Honors list at Pomfret School in Pomfret, Connecticut.

To achieve this level of distinction, Maximilian earned a grade point average of at least 3.67 and received no grade lower than a B+.

Sarah Fletcher of Lynbrook, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Fletcher was initiated at Middle Tennessee State University.

Fletcher is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine's Fall 2022 Student Research Symposium showcased the scientific findings of Mineola medical student Scott Landman.

More than 50 student abstracts were featured. Landman's titled: "Could congenital hydrocephalus lead to evolution of novel brain morphologies in domestic chickens?"
