No. 87 — Stop in Front Street Bakery

This village bakery offers delectable treats to start the morning off right.

The next destination on our "100 Things" countdown is tucked away near the Rockville Centre train station. , right across from the LIRR terminal, is a tiny, walk-in bakery that serves homemade cakes, cookies, pastries and doughnuts.

If you're looking for high quality, low-price alternative to corporate doughnut factories, Front Street is the place to go. Weekday mornings after 9 a.m. are probably the best time for a swift visit; any time earlier — during peak hours — will have you waiting out the door. The reward, however, is well worth the wait.

The most popular items, according to the staff, are the crumb cakes, night and day cookies and dot cookies. Night and days are a classic anywhere, but by the looks of the crumb cakes, there's a reason for their popularity. My breakfast choice was a combination of two vices — a crumb cake doughnut. It didn't disappoint!

The Front Street Bakery also started incorporating original artistic edible designs into its selection after getting numerous requests from the community. Being greeted by a delicious looking Chanel handbag isn't the worst way to be welcomed into a pastry shop, that's for sure!

For two doughnuts and two coffees (Green Mountain), the total was $5.50. That's a steal in my book.
