BALDWIN, NY — A sinkhole blocked Foxhurst Road in Oceanside for several hours on Sunday. The road buckled due to the eruption of an underground water main pipe, Legislator Debra Mulé (D-Freeport) said.

It's the third South Shore sinkhole in two months and Mulé is renewing her calls for infrastructure upgrades.

"The current state of Nassau County’s aging sewer mains, water pipes, and other vital infrastructure demands an immediate response from leaders at all levels of government if we are to adequately safeguard the welfare of our communities and protect the environment from further harm," she said.

Last month, a 42-inch sewer main failed under Grand Avenue, making the Baldwin road impassible until mid-July. Sewage spilled into residents' backyards and into the nearby Brookside Creek.

On May 31, Lido Boulevard in Lido Beach was badly damaged by a sinkhole.

Earlier this month, Mulé sent letters to New York's political leaders at all levels of government from Gov. Hochul to the senators and congressional contingent. The legislator expressed the urgent need for additional resources to repair and overhaul county infrastructure.

"I am committed to making the implementation of those necessary short- and long-term solutions my top priority in the days ahead," Mulé said.
