Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook-21st AD) and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano recently hosted an overdose prevention forum featuring NARCAN training at South Side High School. Over 150 concerned residents from Rockville Centre and the community attended. Curran, who hosted similar forums with Mangano and Town of Hempstead Senior Councilman Anthony J. Santino in West Hempstead and Lynbrook earlier this year, said the forum was open to parents, guardians and the general public.

“I want to thank County Executive Mangano and Eden Laiken for their hard work and commitment to helping educate families with this life-saving information,” said Curran. “These forums are learning experiences for parents, guardians, neighbors or friends who know someone who is struggling with substance abuse. They are designed to help us recognize what to do in the case of an overdose, and how to administer the life-saving, overdose-reversal agent NARCAN. Drug abuse is a problem and is on the rise on Long Island, specifically in our youth and children, and it has to be stopped. By educating and equipping parents, guardians, mentors, neighbors and friends with necessary prevention and life-saving skills, we can make our communities safer places to live.”
Nassau County Executive Mangano said, “I will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of all Nassau County families to bring them the knowledge and awareness to this dangerous and deadly drug. I am glad to have co-sponsored this and other events with Assemblyman Curran.”
