Pair Were Found With Gun Inside Closed Building: Nassau Police

Police say one of the men tried to hid a gun and ammunition in a closet before exiting the building.

Two men were arrested in Baldwin Monday night after police say they were found trespassing inside a closed business.

According to police, officers were conducting an investigation at 2432 Grand Ave. just after 8 p.m. Monday night when they saw two men inside a closed and locked building. The officers knocked on the door and announced their presence, and police say that Hugh Brown, 28, of Westbury, tried to flee out the back door. David Smith, 35, of Freeport, said he couldn't unlock the front door and was told to exit through the back, police say.

Police say they saw Smith put something inside a closet in the building before leaving. After the two men were outside, officers searched the building and found a loaded handgun and ammunition in the closet, police say. Both men were arrested without incident.
