ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY - Last week, all three Rockville Centre Jewish congregations, Congregation B’nai Sholom-Beth David, Central Synagogue and Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Emeth, gathered together for a Rockville Centre Community Holocaust Commemoration.

The event, which was attended by about 100 people, took place at B’nai Sholom on Wednesday, May 4.

This year’s event marked the 36th anniversary of B’nai Sholom receiving and putting on display in its lobby a Torah that survived the Holocaust.

B’nai Sholom’s Torah, which was written in 1822, was part of the Jewish community of Bucovice, a small village in what is now the Czech Republic.

It was one of more than 1,500 Torahs brought to London’s Westminster Synagogue for restoration and distribution to synagogues and other Jewish institutions around the world.
