Pictures of Rockville Centre Collission that Split Car in Two

A South Hempstead man was charged with DWI and reckless driving for the collision.

A serious accident split a car in half and shut down Merrick Road in Rockville Centre Friday night, and Patch has photos.

According to police, Dustin B. Brandon, 27, of May Street, South Hempstead, was driving a 2016 Mercedes Benz convertible eastbound on Merrick Road in Rockville Centre at 9:06 p.m. Friday at a high rate of speed when the car collided with a Mazda Miata at the intersection of Merrick Road and Oceanside Road.

The collision caused the Mazda to split in half and a rear tire detached and strike the windshield of a parked tractor trailer. The Mercedes overturned and landed on the south side of Merrick Road east of Oceanside Road against a utility pole.

The Rockville Centre police and fire departments responded and extricated Brandon and his 25-year-old female passenger from the car. Brandon suffered from non-life threatening head and leg injuries; the female passenger suffered from a lower leg injury and the male driver of the Mazda suffered from internal injuries. All parties were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Brandon is charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, two counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of assault and criminal mischief. He was arraigned on Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
