PSEGLI Overhauling Energy Grid To Handle Future Storms In Baldwin

One feature of the project is placing new utility poles that can withstand wind of up to 135 miles per hour.

BALDWIN, NY — PSEG Long Island is taking steps to improve the reliability of the energy grid in Baldwin.

Work started this month and is expected to last into November.

The storm-hardening project includes upgrading or replacing worn equipment. Some utility poles will be replaced with more durable versions that can withstand wind gusts up to 135 miles per hour.

Wires will be made stronger and more resilient.

"This Power On infrastructure improvement project in Baldwin is part of our ongoing, multi-year effort to continue to improve electric reliability for our customers," Peggy Keane, PSEG Long Island’s vice president of Construction and Operations Services, said. "PSEG Long Island is strengthening the electric lines that directly power homes and businesses because we know that electric reliability is more important than ever to our customers."

To keep traffic moving safely, PSEG Long Island will provide cones, flaggers and signage at the worksites.
