Reality Fair Equips Girl Scouts of Nassau County with Life Skills
Girl Scouts of Nassau County Partner with The Ressa Group at Morgan Stanley, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management to Provide Financial Literacy

Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) and the Girl Leadership Committee (GLC) recently held a Reality Fair, an enriching event focused on financial literacy and empowerment for Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassador Girl Scouts. Hosted by Molloy University and partnered with The Ressa Group at Morgan Stanley, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, the event was organized by the GLC with the aim of instilling confidence and proactive financial decision-making among young girls.
“It is imperative that we ensure girls have access to financial literacy education. Girls are curious about how to become financially independent and interested in ways to learn more about it,” said CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County Rande Bynum. “We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm and engagement of our Girl Scouts at the Reality Fair. Events like these provide invaluable opportunities for girls to gain essential life and financial management skills in a supportive and interactive environment.”
Girl Scouts received personalized profiles upon arrival, simulating an adult's financial life, and navigated interactive booths representing various real-life scenarios. The event commenced with a comprehensive introduction covering relevant topics, ensuring participants were equipped with foundational knowledge, and concluded with reflections on applying newfound knowledge to real-life situations such as managing monthly earnings and creating savings plans.

Led by the Girl Leadership Committee, a select group of 9th to 12th grade Girl Scouts working as a committee of the GSNC Board of Directors, the event was organized to provide immersive and impactful learning experiences. The GLC partners closely with the CEO and Girl Scout staff members, contributing to projects ranging from program development to research and marketing. Through their efforts, youth-adult partnerships are facilitated, allowing girls to influence decision-making processes within the council and contribute to innovative initiatives.
“The Girl Leadership Committee came together to discuss different skills and opportunities we felt that girls were lacking,” said Gabby G, Girl Scout Ambassador and the chair of the GSNC Girl Leadership Committee (GLC). After brainstorming we recognized that girls needed more education and preparation about real-world financial realities like health care, mortgages, college costs, and retirement savings. Our committee created a fun and interactive experience allowing Girl Scouts to build financial literacy. We hope girls will leave this experience feeling more confident and equipped to make better decisions about money, seamlessly integrating them into the adult world.”
