Record Gas Prices Send Drivers To Change Plans: AAA
If prices reach $5 a gallon, as many as 75 percent of those surveyed would reduce their time on the road.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Another day of surging gas prices. On Long Island, the average price at the pump is $4.47, increasing four more cents and an all-time high, AAA said.
Drivers are starting to alter their plans.
A survey by AAA indicates the majority of people will make changes to their amount of driving.

Nearly 60 percent of the respondents said they would adjust driving habits or lifestyles if gas prices topped $4 a gallon.
As many as 75 percent of those surveyed said would reduce the driving if prices reached $5.

The preferred option was driving less for 80 percent in the AAA survey, while nearly one-third of drivers aged 18-34 would use a carpool to save on the gas expensive.
More than 53 percent of older drivers would reduce shopping or dining out.
Looking ahead to the summer, 42 percent of those with plans would not make changes.
The national average is $4.31 per gallon and $4.50 in the five boroughs.
