Rockville Centre Appoints New Village Comptroller

George Edwin Scheu will replace Michael Schussheim as the village's chief accountant.

The Village of Rockville Centre has appointed George Edwin Scheu, CPA as the new comptroller. Scheu brings more than 15 years of experience in the accounting industry to Rockville Centre.

In his new role, Scheu is responsible for the preparation and implementation of the annual operating budget, for the sale of bonds to finance capital projects and for advising the Board of Trustees about the general financial condition of the village. In addition, Scheu also supervises the Tax Office, the Purchasing Department and the Community Development Agency.

“We welcome George Scheu and his vast experience to the Village of Rockville Centre,” said Mayor Francis X. Murray. “George will play an integral role in our village’s sound fiscal practices.”

Most recently, Scheu served as a supervisor at Marcum LLP, a Melville-based company offering a full spectrum of traditional tax, accounting and assurance services. Prior to his work at Marcum, Scheu was a senior accountant and supervisor for nine years at Albrecht, Viggiano, Zurek and Company, P.C. in Hauppauge. During his tenure, he provided audit, tax and advisory services to non-public companies, municipalities and individuals throughout Long Island and the surrounding area.

“I am looking forward to working with village officials to continue to execute their commitment to being fiscally responsible and mindful of holding down taxes,” said Scheu. “The village enjoys some of the highest ratings from Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s, and I will continue to make sure that this recognition remains in place.”
