Rockville Centre Begins Search For Next Police Commissioner

Commissioner James Vafeades is retiring at the end of June.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Rockville Centre is in search of its next police commissioner.

James Vafeades is retiring later this month after five years on the job, the Herald reported.

The village has a job posting for the position. The salary is listed between $235,000-$250,000.

Candidates are required to have at least seven years of law enforcement experience, including a minimum of two years in a supervisory role.

Vafeades, who earned a master's degree from Molloy College in criminal justice, joined the Rockville Centre police force in 1990, the Herald said.
