Rockville Centre Bishop Appointed To Providence

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — A Rockville Centre-based bishop has been appointed to the Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island.

Pope Francis named Auxiliary Bishop Richard Henning as coadjutor bishop in Providence, the Boston Pilot reports.

Henning, 58, became the Rockville Centre auxiliary bishop in 2018.

Henning, who was born in Rockville Centre, attended Chaminade High School in Mineola. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and a Master of Arts degree in history from St. John's University.

He was ordained for the Rockville Centre Diocese in 1992 at St. Agnes Cathedral.

After completing his studies, Henning joined the faculty of the Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, the Pilot said.

A special Mass to celebrate Henning's appointment is scheduled for Jan. 26.
