RVC Students Named Semifinals For National Merit Scholarship
Approximately 16,000 high school students are vying for the prestigious scholarship.
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — Thousands of students from across the country have been named semifinalists for the 2022 National Merit Scholarship. But only students from Rockville Centre earned the distinction: Ben Lomot and Isabelle Lu of South Side High School.
Two students from neighboring Oceanside High School are also on the list: Anoop Krishnadas and Sophie Weissman.
Finalists are expected to find out in February if they advanced. The scholarship winner will be chosen from that group.

Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
Three types of National Merit Scholarships will be offered in the spring of 2022.

Each finalist will compete for one of 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships awarded on a state-representational basis. About 1,000 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards will be provided by approximately 220 corporations and business organizations. In addition, about 180 colleges and universities are expected to finance some 4,000 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who will attend the sponsor institution.
