See Which LI Med School Was Named Among The Nation’s Best In U.S. News & World Report
The U.S. News & World Report named one Long Island medical school among the best in New York and the top half in the country.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — The U.S. News & World Report published its annual “Best Graduate Schools” list this week, with one Long Island medical school landing among the top three in New York state and the top half in the country.
The Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell earned a tier 2 placement by U.S. News & World Report for research excellence, conferred to schools that maintain a high amount of research activity over the prior year. While the honor is given to the school, the Zucker School of Medicine’s dean said it was a team effort.
“We are incredibly proud that our dedication to impactful research has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report, amidst federal funding challenges,” Dr. David Battinelli, the Deborah and Lawrence Smith Dean of the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, said. “This recognition is a testament to our commitment to pioneering discovery. Our students benefit tremendously from the extensive research opportunities made possible by our exclusive partnership with Northwell Health, including its Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, and collaborations with world-renowned partners such as Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.”

Zucker School officials said the award is of particular interest this year, as reductions in federal funding make medical research a harder undertaking to pursue. National Institute of Health grants, in particular, have been a target of funding cuts, officials said. For the just 15-year-old medical school, however, officials said “exceptional resilience” has allowed for the continuation of research under tougher circumstances.
