Seven Signs Your Child Needs Braces
The Smilist Dental's Orthodontist, Dr. Craig Feldman, shares some common warning signs that your child may need braces.

The American Association of Orthodontics recommend that children see an orthodontist around the age of seven. By this age, enough permanent teeth have emerged for a skilled orthodontist to pinpoint potential issues. Wondering what those issues may be? Dr. Craig Feldman, Orthodontist at the Smilist Dental, shares some common signs that braces may be needed.
- An irregular loss of baby teeth whether early or late
- Thumb- or finger-sucking habits
- Difficulty chewing or biting
- Crossbites - when the upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth
- Teeth that are crowded or misplaced
- Teeth that meet abnormally, are crooked or teeth that do not meet at all
- Jaws that click or shift
If you see these signs in your child’s smile, it is important that they are seen by an orthodontist. Doing so will protect their smile now and for years to come.
