Melissa Salyk-Virk of RVC is headed to Jordan this summer on a mission to support settling Syrian refugees in middle-eastern countries

St. Mark's UMC is hosting a Wine Tasting and Silent Auction Event at its new parsonage on May 22 to help fund a peace-building mission by Rockville Centre native Melissa Salyk-Virk.

Ms. Salyk-Virk will spend two months in Amman, Jordan this summer working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support the re-settling of Syrian refugees in Middle Eastern countries. This is part of a graduate consultancy in Peace-Building and Transnational Security. Ms. Salyk-Virk is a Masters of Science candidate in NYU's Center for Global Affairs.

Her work will involve supporting a small group of countries in developing a process for dealing with the influx of refugees coming out of Syria.

The Wine Tasting and Silent Auction will take place from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, May 22, at St. Marks' new parsonage just south of the church at 200 Hempstead Avenue in Rockville Centre. Ms. Salyk-Virk will be present to speak with attendees who are curious about her mission.
