Trio Arrested After Man Tried To Murder Nassau Woman: Police

Police say one man fired three shots at a woman in an attempt to kill her, but missed. He then fled with two others, but they were caught.

Three men were arrested Sunday night after one of them had tried to murder a woman in Baldwin, Nassau County police said.

According to police, a 24-year-old woman arrived at a home on Kings Parkway, Baldwin, just before 11 p.m. to speak with one of the residents. As she was leaving, police say she heard a window open and turned to see Michael Atamian, 19, of Massapequa, climbing out onto a roof from the second floor. Atamian then pointed a handgun at her, police said, and the woman ran to her car. Police say Atamian fired three shots at the woman, missing all three times and hitting a car behind her.

The woman got into her car, fled the scene and called police. She gave officers a description of a grey Honda Civic with no license plates that she said Atamian may have fled into. The woman was unhurt.

A short time later, an officer heard the notification for the incident and the description of the vehicle and of Atamian. Coincidentally, the officer had already pulled over the Honda Civic at the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Spruce Street in West Hempstead for not having license plates. Atamian was in the car, police said.

As officers approached the car, police say that they saw one of the passengers, Louis Castillo, 27, of Massapequa, had a silver handgun in his waistband.

Officers ordered Castillo out of the car, and police say he refused. He continued to struggle, police say, and officers used a Taser to subdue him and place him under arrest. The driver of the car, Trent Austin, was also placed under arrest.

Atamian was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Castillo was charged with resisting arrest, criminal possession of a firearm and second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Austin was charged with third-degree hindering prosecution.

All three are scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.
