Two Hospitalized After Nassau County Home Invasion

One man was shot in the leg while trying to escape, police say.

FREEPORT, NY - Two men were hospitalized, including one who was shot in the leg, during a home invasion in Freeport early Tuesday morning, according to Nassau Police.

A 21-year-old man was entering his Casino Street home at about 12:25 a.m. when two men wearing masks and armed with black handguns pushed him into the home, police said.

Once inside, the robbers demanded cash from the man and a 49-year-old woman, who was on the couch, police said.

One of the robbers struck the man in the head, causing a laceration, according to police.

A 25-year-old man and 20-year-old woman came downstairs when they heard yelling and were confronted by the robbers.

The woman returned to the second floor with one of the robbers as he searched for money, police said.

The robber returned to the first floor at which time the 25-year-old man tried to run out the front door and was shot in the left leg as he exited the home, police said.

A passerby drove the man to an area hospital.

The robbers fled on foot in an unknown direction without any proceeds, police said.

A Nassau County ambulance transported the 21-year-old man to a local hospital for treatment of a head laceration.

Freeport Village officials obtained a search warrant for the home at 129 Casino Street on Tuesday afternoon.

"The Freeport Building department and FPD entered the premises which several code violations and hazardous safety conditions were noted and reported," Freeport Village Attorney Howard Colton said. "The Freeport Fire Department chief has deemed the property uninhabitable and ordered for an immediate board up.”
