2 Cops Hospitalized After Being Run Over By Fleeing Car: Police

Nassau Police say a traffic stop went wrong when two men tried to flee by hitting the officers with their car.

Two Hempstead men were arrested Friday afternoon after police say they tried to flee a traffic stop, striking two police officers with their car.

According to Nassau Police, patrol officers stopped a 2007 Infiniti traveling on Grand Avenue for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. Police say that both the driver, Markus Mcintyre, 25, of Hilton Avenue, and the passenger, Kevin Curray, 27, of Manor Avenue, refused to roll down their window for the officers. When one officer opened the driver's door, police say Mcintyre put the car in reverse and accelerated, striking both officers and their patrol car. Police say he then put the car into drive and again hit the officer, causing him to be thrown. The officer was able to disable the car and place Mcintyre under arrest, police say, with the help of additional officers while he was being punched and elbowed in the head.

While Mcintyre was driving, police say Curry opened his door and tried to flee, pushing the second officer to the ground. Police say that, as Curry was being arrested, narcotics fell from his pocket.

Both officers, who police did not name, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. Police did say how seriously the officers were hurt. The car was discovered to have been stolen from New Jersey.

Mcintyre was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, two counts of second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations. Curry was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana.
