Vehicles Collide, Overturn; 92-Year-Old Driver Dead: Police

The accident happened at about 9:40 on Friday morning, police say.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — A 92-year-old man was killed in a crash Friday morning in Rockville Centre.

A gray Nissan Murano was seen cutting in front of another driver at Atkinson Road, Rockville Centre police said.

At about 9:40 a.m., as the Nissan headed north on North Village Avenue, the driver approached a red traffic light near Peninsula Boulevard, adjacent to Mercy Medical Center.

As the SUV got to the signal, the driver collided with the rear of a gray Lexus and flipped over, police said.

The driver of the Nissan Murano, a 92-year-old man, died at a nearby hospital, according to Nassau County police.

The other driver and a passenger were treated for minor injuries, police said.

The crash is still being investigated by police, but no criminality is suspected.
