Gov. Kathy Hochul declares herself the winner as she seeks her first full term in office.

ALBANY, NY — Gov. Kathy Hochul is headed to a big victory in the Democratic primary.
Hochul, who took office when Andrew Cuomo left in scandal last year, is seeking her first full term.
Multiple media outlets, including NBC News and the Associated Press, projected Hochul will win with ease.

Hochul, who declared victory Tuesday night, now looks to become the state's first female elected governor.
"I stand on the shoulders of generations of women, who constantly had to bang up against that glass ceiling," she said. "To the women of New York, this one's for you!"

Hochul, 63, held a lead of 40 points over New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. It was at least a 50-point advantage against Congressman Tom Suozzi, with approximately 50% of the precincts in, according to the state's Board of Elections.
Hochul is expected to face Congressman Lee Zeldin in the general election, according to a projection by the Associated Press.
