WATCH: 'Jew-Hatred Is Rising' Across LI, Civil Rights Lawyer Says

MINEOLA, NY — Amid an influx of anti-Semitism on Long Island, the Nassau County Legislature has approved a resolution for "End Jew Hatred Day" each April 29.

Brooke Goldstein, activist and civil rights lawyer with The Lawfare Project, was one of the people leading the push.

"It was a truly a collaborative effort," Goldstein, a guest on Patch AM, said. "The Holocaust Center for Tolerance and Education played a huge role in making this happen."

Goldstein said having the day on the calendar is important to show that "Jew-hatred is rising," and it is a "systematic problem."

However, this is a slight downward trend of anti-Semitism statewide. There were 752 incidents across New York between 2020 and 2021, while 765 incidents were reported over the previous 12 months, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

She wants the Jewish community to be properly treated by everyone.

"Society has been terribly behind in recognizing, not only minority rights, now we're seeing a surge in minority rights movements, but also the rights of the Jewish community," Goldstein said.

Her movement is non-partisan, but believes strongly that anyone who doesn't think Jews should "live freely, safely and securely, you are a bigot," Goldstein said.
