LONG ISLAND, NY — A joint effort between Island Harvest, Stop and Shop and PSEG Long Island are together for the second annual Power to Feed Long Island drive.
Throughout the summer, six Stop and Shop supermarkets will hold food drives and the items will go directly to Long Islanders who need it the most.
"All of our employees live on Long Island and work on Long Island," Dave Lyons, interim president and COO of PSEG Long Island, said. "It's important for us to support our neighbors."

Lyons said he was surprised to learn that hundreds of thousands of families in Nassau and Suffolk counties struggle to put food on the table every night.
While most food drives are connected to the holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Year's, Lyons said it is a year-round concern.

"Over the summer, the donations tend to drop off," he said. "We wanted to step in and fill the gap."
The charity drive delivered more than 22,000 meals last year and set a 30,000 meal goal for this year to commemorate Island Harvest's 30th anniversary.
