WATCH: Weekend LI Rallies Planned To Stop The Gun Violence
March for Our Lives is holding a national rally in Washington on Saturday, while protests take place on Long Island.
MINEOLA, NY — The group March for Our Lives is organizing rallies across the country to demand lawmakers make gun legislation. The urgency comes following last month's shooting in Uvalde, Texas where 19 students and two teachers were killed.
The main protest is scheduled for Washington on Saturday, but three rallies are planned on Long Island, in Port Jefferson Station, Great Neck and Mineola, from the Nassau County Supreme Court to the Legislative Building.
Nicolette Carrion is a political science student at Georgetown University from Baldwin.

"We're going to be protesting like so many other cities across the country," Carrion said on a special edition of Patch AM.
Carrion said they worked with the national organization to get grants, t-shirts and posters.

Sabrina Guo, who attends Syosset High School, is also helping organize the Saturday afternoon Mineola rally.
"We have hundreds registered so far," Guo, who said speakers will include several politicians.
The teenager knows her future will include advocacy and activism in some form.
"Change begins with a united front from all walks of life, and that's what we're trying to accomplish through this rally," Guo said.
"Yes, we are young people and we are definitely getting our high school crowd out there," Carrion said. "[But], we will be having a multi-generational protest."
The march starts at 1:30 p.m.
