This Week In Rockville Centre: Athletic Complex Graffiti, Apartment Door Kicked In, Police Say

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY — The Rockville Centre Police Department released its weekly report Monday, with 12 items listed as having taken place in the village over the past week.

The Items listed are as follows:

On Aug. 23 at 12:07 a.m., police were called to a “large disturbance” near Meehan Lane, and responded to disperse a gathering there, police said. In the aftermath, police said, it was revealed that a handgun had been displayed during the incident. On Aug. 26, police executed a search warrant in connection with the handgun investigation and made an arrest, police said.

On Aug. 24 at 1:02 p.m., 34-year-old Rockville Centre resident Kenneth Edwards was arrested with an open bench warrant on Ocean Avenue, police said. According to police, Edwards was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree menacing, resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.

On Aug. 24 at 2:09 p.m., a woman reported that she had been struck in the chest by an unknown woman after the two had a disagreement over a parked car in the lot of a North Village Avenue medical building, police said. According to police, the woman who said she had been struck reported pain and swelling but refused medical attention. The woman who was accused of striking had left the scene by the time police arrived, police said.

On Aug. 25 at 7:21 p.m., a Banks Avenue man said his apartment door had been kicked in by “a group of youths” who fled the building after kicking open the locked door, police said. According to police, the youths also banged on two other apartment doors before leaving the premises. No one entered the man’s apartment and no injuries were reported, police said.

On Aug. 26 at 2:14 p.m., a woman said she had received unwanted texts over a one-week period from an acquaintance of hers, police said. According to police, the woman reported annoyance and alarm at the unwanted texts, but requested only that the texting incident be documented.

On Aug. 26 at 2:17 p.m., a Plymouth Road woman said six checks worth $4,045 had been cashed out of her account at a Hempstead credit union earlier in the month, police said. According to police, the checks bore the woman’s account information but she said they were not hers. Police said the woman had reported the check incident to her bank and anticipated that the funds would be restored.

On Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m., 45-year-old Rockville Centre resident Neville Hunter was arrested on Meehan Lane after a search warrant was executed at a home on that street, police said. According to police, Hunter is now being charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon involving a loaded firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.

On Aug. 26 at 6:14 p.m., police received a report of a stolen bike from a Greystone Road residence, police said. Police investigated the incident, found the man and determined that — while no theft had occurred — the man was “highly intoxicated,” police said. The man was hospitalized, police said.

On Aug. 27 at 10:15 p.m., a South Park Avenue resident was found unresponsive at her apartment and pronounced dead there, police said. Police said her death was from “apparent natural causes” and that no criminality was observed.

On Aug. 29 at 9:39 a.m., a Maple Avenue woman said another resident of her assisted living facility had made “unwanted physical contact” with her, police said. The woman requested only documentation of the incident, and no injuries were reported, police said.

On Aug. 29 at 8:36 p.m., a Banks Avenue man was found unresponsive in his home and pronounced dead there, police said. Ambulance crews responded and attempted unsuccessfully to save the man’s life, police said. According to authorities, no criminality was observed at the scene.

On Aug. 30 at 8:16 a.m., a maintenance staffer at a Peninsula Boulevard athletic complex reported that an unknown person had spray painted black lettering on the wall and floor of a storage room over night, police said. According to police, the spray painter left behind a paint can, and the matter is currently being investigated.
